ABATE FETEL: 45% OF ITALIAN PRODUCT HAS ALREADY BEEN SOLD (736 THOUSAND TONS, +18% COMPARED TO 2013)

10/12/2014 -

The final figures concerning the Italian pear production reports 736,000 tons produced at a national level, clearly below Italy’s productive potential.  The offer is quite similar to last year’s and 6% less than the 2009-2012 average.

This is what emerged from the data processed by the CSO and published by OI PERA.

As for pear stocks in Emilia Romagna, data concerning early December sales show a very lively selling pace: as of December 1, 2014, 53% of stored pears are already on the market, versus the 40% registered in the year before. Demand for all varieties is strong: 45% of Abate Fetel production has already been sold versus 27% registered during the same period last year.

At the beginning of December, even though the Abate pear production was 18% more than the previous year, product availability was down by 11% thanks to the higher sales in autumn.

“This sales campaign has been very active so far – said Gianni Amidei, chairman of OI Pera – as shown by the high percentage of the product sold as of beginning of December.

Demand has slightly slowed down during the last few days, but this is quite common during this period as the market is more oriented to citrus fruit promotion.  However, – Gianni Amidei ended – the good product quality will be a guarantee for the coming months.”
