Sicilian red orange exports off to a good start. Oranfrizer sends the first shipments to Northern Europe

23/12/2011 -

Oranfrizer international exports of red oranges will be getting off to a start the last week of the year. Denmark, Norway and Finland will be the first countries to receive shipment. The first oranges to depart will be of the Moro variety, followed by Tarocco oranges in January. “Temperatures have lowered and the product is improving as far as the level of ripeness and pigmentation are concerned”, explained Oranfrizer marketing manager Salvo Laudani. “Our oranges possess superior organoleptic qualities, are well packaged and supported by marketing actions at sales outlets. They are therefore targeted towards the higher segment of the market”.

The Oranfrizer product will be sold above all under the trademark of the Consortium for the Protection of the Sicilian PGI Red Orange, a guarantee of quality and healthfulness. “We expect an increase in exports during the sales campaign that is starting up now, with respect to recent years – continued Laudani – even though the markets currently appear to be rather stiff due to the particular economic context”. This will be a particular campaign, where the percentage of products of small calibre is above average: we are talking about 40-45% of the production that is less than calibre 8 in size (64-73 mm), a size that is normally directed towards transformation. Only 15% of the oranges fall within the optimal calibres.
